Built for the 1.8T and 2.0L.
Leichtlauf High Tech is Liqui Moly's mainstream 5W-40 — a synthetic-technology base oil with a full detergent and anti-wear package, blended in Ulm and approved by VW itself. On a 20-year-old Mk4 the two things that actually matter are keeping the ring lands and hydraulic lifters clean and holding grade under heat. This oil is built for both.

Mk4 1.8T and 2.0L 8V both run a spin-on filter (OE 06A115561B, or the larger 068115561B per VW/Audi TSB 04-01 on the 1.8T). The 5-liter jug covers a full service fill on either engine with a little left over for top-ups — always finish on the dipstick, not the bottle.

Leichtlauf vs Molygen
Which one do you want?
Both carry the same VW 502 00 / 505 00 approval and both are correct for your Mk4. The difference is the additive package — and what you're asking the engine to do.
Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40
The sensible default. Stock or lightly modified 1.8T and 2.0L cars, normal street miles, regular intervals. Slightly higher viscosity index (180) and a marginally higher flash point. Best value per change.
Molygen New Generation 5W-40
Liqui Moly's MFC (Molecular Friction Control) tungsten additive on top of the same approval set, plus higher TBN (11.3) and a fluorescent green dye that makes leak-tracing under UV trivial. Worth it on a chipped 1.8T, a track car, or a high-mileage motor you're chasing seeps on.
