Garage Unique Front Lip Install Guide – Civic Type R FL5
Difficulty: Very Easy | Time: About 1 hour | Fits: 2023+ Honda Civic Type R (FL5)
This carbon fiber front lip is a direct bolt-in for the FL5's lower front bumper — no cutting, drilling into the body, or permanent modification required. Here's how to get a clean, even fit.
What You'll Need
- Phillips or Torx screwdriver (or a drill/driver with the matching bit)
- Painter's or masking tape
- Isopropyl alcohol wipes
- An extra set of hands for the alignment step
Step 1: Prep the Mounting Surface
Park on level ground and let the front end cool down if the car's just been driven. Wipe the lower section of the front bumper — where the lip will sit — with a panel-safe cleaner to clear off road grime, wax, or polish residue. A clean surface keeps the alignment tape from lifting and gives you a clear view of the bumper as you line up the lip.
Step 2: Dry-Fit and Align
Have a helper hold the lip up against the lower bumper while you check the fit. Use painter's or masking tape at a few points to hold it temporarily so you can step back and inspect the fit without anything shifting. Walk around to both sides and confirm the gap between the lip and the bumper is even left-to-right before you commit to any fasteners — it's much easier to correct alignment now than after the first screw is in.
Step 3: Fasten the Lip
Using the hardware included with your kit, fasten the lip through its pre-drilled holes, driving the screws directly into the plastic bumper itself.
Important: Don't use the factory OEM mounting tabs for this. They're not built to carry the load of a bolt-on lip long-term, and the lip's own pre-drilled holes are positioned specifically to bypass them.
Work from the center point outward toward each end so the lip stays seated evenly as you go, rather than fastening one side fully before starting the other. Once installed, every mounting point sits hidden behind the lip — there shouldn't be any visible hardware from the front or from underneath the car.
Step 4: Finish Up
Pull off the alignment tape from step 2. Wipe down the center section of the lip with an isopropyl alcohol wipe to clear off fingerprints, dust, and any leftover tape residue — this gives the badge a clean surface to bond to. Apply the included badge to the cleaned section and press firmly along the full surface for a few seconds to set the adhesive. Give it a final look from the front and both sides to confirm everything sits flush before driving off.
