Rear Illuminated LED Emblem

Replace the factory flip emblem with an illuminated LED unit. Steps are shown using a Golf MK7 with an OEM flip emblem — the process is nearly identical across other VW models.

1

Open the trunk's interior trim panel to access the factory emblem assembly.

2

Remove the three fixing screws holding the flip emblem, then disconnect the drain hose, power plug, video cable, and trunk switch plug. Take off the complete factory assembly.

3

Remove the four screws holding the flip emblem housing together, unplug the switch connector, and separate the emblem halves.

4

Install the new illuminated emblem assembly in reverse of Step 3. The pins inside the switch connector shift easily, so seat them carefully to avoid a poor connection.

5

Reinstall the assembled illuminated emblem onto the trunk door, adjusting left/right and rotation until it sits centered.

6

Route the matching wiring harness, pass the emblem's fixing screws through the ground ring, and fasten into the vehicle's screw holes.

7

Tighten the three fixing screws, connect the illuminated emblem's power plug, then reconnect the original power plug, video plug, and drain hose.

8

Clamp the alligator clip on the harness's power wire to the position light wire in the tail light socket. Fasten it tightly to avoid poor contact.

9

Turn on the lights to confirm the emblem works normally. Bundle and secure the wiring with cable ties, then reinstall the trunk trim panel.

Instead of running the power wire toward a taillight, route it down toward the bottom of the trunk lid, following the factory wiring loom, through the rubber grommet leading into the bumper area where the license plate lights sit.

1

Pop out a factory license plate light housing, unplug the factory harness, and plug it into one end of the adapter. Plug the other end back into the light housing.

2

Connect the power wire from your new LED emblem into the remaining lead on the adapter.

3

Tuck the extra wiring behind the bumper and snap the license plate light housing back into place.

Why this method is better
No wire cutting means no risk of corrosion or a short from a loose splice, and the emblem syncs automatically with your parking or headlights instead of needing its own switched feed.
