VW LED Front Emblem Installation Guide
Three proven ways to power a front illuminated emblem on a MK8 GTI, Golf R, or 2024–26 GLI: a plug-and-play T-harness off the grille light bar, a direct splice into the light bar feed, or a switched tap at the fuse box. Pick the one that matches your kit and your comfort level with wiring.

What you're actually doing.
The emblem itself is a simple two-wire LED panel that clips into the factory badge aperture. All three methods below do the same job — find a switched 12V source, ground the other side, and dress the wiring so nothing rubs or melts.

Which wiring method is yours?
Check what came in the box. If your kit included an adapter that plugs into the factory light bar plug, use the T-harness method — it's the cleanest and fully reversible.

Method 1 — Recommended
Grille light bar T-harness.
A plug-and-play adapter bridges into the passenger-side LED DRL light bar circuit and feeds the emblem in parallel, so the badge lights whenever the running lights or headlights are on. No wire cutting, no splicing.
Remove the factory front emblem
Pop the hood and reach behind the centre grille opening. Depending on clip style you'll either depress the top and bottom retention tabs on the back of the badge or twist it counter-clockwise. Push the stock badge forward and out through the grille ring.
Mount the LED emblem
Feed the emblem's lead wiring back through the centre grille opening toward the passenger side. Line the rear locking keys up with the grille slots and press firmly until every clip clicks home.
Connect the T-harness
Find the 2-pin OEM connector at the inner edge of the passenger-side LED light bar strip. Press the locking tab and unplug the factory connector. Plug the male end of the T-harness into the stock socket, then reconnect the factory plug into the female socket on the harness.
Test function and polarity
Attach the emblem leads to the output port on the T-harness module, then switch on the ignition or parking lights to trigger the DRLs. If the badge doesn't light, shut the ignition off and reverse the 2-pin plug — swapping the red/black orientation fixes it.
Dress the wiring
Wrap the pin junctions in electrical tape for weather resistance. Zip-tie the slack neatly along the upper radiator core support, keeping every run clear of the fan blades and hot engine components.
Method 2
Light bar splice.
If your kit shipped without an adapter, you can tap the same circuit directly. Wired this way, the emblem and the light bar come on together the moment the car starts.
Wiring Reference
Splice the light bar feed — never the ACC wire.
Tap into the cable or connector that powers the left or right LED bar. The green-highlighted cable in the reference above is the radar / ACC line — leave it completely alone. Touching it risks a driver-assist fault, not just a dead badge.
Polarity
Red to positive, black to ground.
Every one of these emblems runs the same two leads — red is the 12V feed, black is ground. Solder or use a quality tap connector, seal the joint, and confirm the badge lights before you close everything up.
Method 3
Fuse box tap.
The fallback if you'd rather not touch the lighting harness at all. The emblem runs off a switched circuit instead, so it lights with the ignition rather than the DRLs.
Find a switched 10A circuit
Open the fuse box and locate the 10A fuses. There are typically three, and you'll need to test them individually — you're looking for one that has power with the car on and loses it with the car off. That's your source.
Fit the add-a-fuse tap
Pull the fuse you identified, seat it in the add-a-fuse tap along with the emblem's red lead, and push the assembly back into the slot. If your emblem's red wire terminates in a pin, cut the pin off and land the bare wire in the tap.
Ground the black wire
Pick a bolt or metal component solidly attached to the chassis — an existing ground bolt near the fuse box is ideal. Clean the contact area, crimp a ring terminal onto the black lead, and torque it down tight.
Troubleshooting
If something's not right.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Do I need coding or an OBDeleven?
No. The emblem draws from an existing circuit and isn't seen by the car as a module, so there's nothing to code.
Do I have to remove the whole grille?
No. Some install videos pull the grille for camera access, but for the emblem alone you can work through the centre opening.
Will this trigger a bulb-out warning?
Not if the ignition is off when you unplug the light bar connector. If a fault does appear, a full 5-minute power-down usually clears it.
Can I run it off the low beam instead?
We'd stay on the DRL light bar circuit. It's the lowest-risk tap point on these cars and gives the behaviour most people want — badge on whenever the car is awake.
Is it safe in a car wash or rain?
Yes, once the pin junctions are taped and the badge is clipped flush. Sealing the connections is the step people skip and then regret.
