Crystal Shifter Knob

Swap the stock MK8 shift-by-wire shifter for the illuminated crystal unit. The whole trim panel pops out as one piece — plug-and-play, no cutting or coding.

  • Plastic trim removal pry tools (no metal — it will scratch the console)
  • Microfiber cloth
1

Prep the car

Park level, set the parking brake, put the car in P, switch ignition off and let screens power down.

2

Pry up the shifter panel

Work a plastic trim tool under the rear edge closest to the armrest and lift, releasing the perimeter clips one by one.

3

Disconnect the harnesses

Lift the panel a few centimeters and unplug the shifter and parking brake/Auto Hold connectors — press the release tab, don't pull on the wires.

4

Remove the old unit

Lift the complete stock shifter panel out of the console.

5

Connect the crystal shifter

Plug harnesses into the new unit until each connector clicks, keeping wiring routed as before.

6

Test before clipping in

Ignition on — confirm P indicator, knob illumination, parking brake, and Auto Hold all respond. Cycle gears once with the brake pressed.

7

Seat the panel

Ignition off, align and press down evenly until every clip snaps home flush with the console.

8

Final check

Start the car, shift through P-R-N-D/S to confirm normal operation and no cluster warnings.

Tip: if a clip is stubborn, work a second trim tool nearby rather than forcing one point. If illumination doesn't come on, re-seat the connectors — a half-clicked plug is the most common cause. Reference guide only, consult a professional if unsure.
