Molygen 5W-40
5 Liters Full Synthetic · MFC Additive · OE-Spec Filter
The step up for a Mk4 that sees boost, heat, or a tune. Molygen New Generation holds the same VW 502 00 / 505 00 approval as the standard oil, then layers Liqui Moly's MFC — Molecular Friction Control — tungsten additive on top of it. Higher TBN, a deposit-fighting friction package, and the fluorescent green dye that makes chasing seeps on a twenty-year-old motor genuinely easy under a UV light.

Liqui Moly Molygen 5W-40
Why This Oil
MFC, and what it actually does.
Molygen's headline is Molecular Friction Control — a tungsten-based additive that plates onto sliding surfaces and keeps deposits from forming while cutting frictional losses. On a Mk4 1.8T that's been chipped, sees track days, or has 180k on the clock, that additive package is the reason to spend the extra over a standard 5W-40. Same VW approval, more protection behind it.
What's Included
Everything for the change.
| Qty | Part | Brand |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 Liter of 5W-40 LIQUI MOLY Molygen fully synthetic oil | Liqui Moly |
| 1 | Oil Filter | MANN, Mahle, or OEM VW/Audi |
| 1 | Crush Washer | OE Supplier |
Mk4 1.8T and 2.0L 8V both run a spin-on filter (OE 06A115561B, or the larger 068115561B per VW/Audi TSB 04-01 on the 1.8T). The 5-liter jug covers a full service fill on either engine with a little left over for top-ups — always finish on the dipstick, not the bottle.

Molygen vs Leichtlauf
Which one do you want?
Both carry the same VW 502 00 / 505 00 approval and both are correct for your Mk4. The difference is the additive package — and what you're asking the engine to do.
Molygen New Generation 5W-40
MFC tungsten friction-control additive, higher TBN at 11.3, and the fluorescent green UV dye. The pick for a chipped or turbo-upgraded 1.8T, a car that sees track time, or a high-mileage motor you're actively chasing leaks on.
Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40
The sensible default for a stock or lightly modified Mk4 on normal street miles. Same VW approval, slightly higher viscosity index at 180 and a higher flash point, without the MFC package. Best value per change.
