Overview
A plate on the front, without holes in the bumper.
The MK8 R gives you two bad options for a front plate from the factory: drill the bumper, or hang it off the tow hook. The KW holder mounts to existing structure behind the grille instead — nothing gets drilled, no parking sensors get blocked, and the recovery hook stays free. This listing covers the redesigned side mount and the quick release centre mount.
No Drilling
Nothing permanent happens to the car.
The mounting component locates on existing points behind the grille. No holes, no adhesive on paint, no cut trim. Pull it off and the bumper is exactly as it left the factory — which matters at lease return or resale.
Side Mount
Redesigned, and it takes a side.
This is the updated MK8 R side mount, compatible across 2022–2024 cars. It tucks the plate into one corner and leaves most of the grille visible. Choose Left or Right depending on which side you want it sitting.
Quick Release
Plate on, plate off, in seconds.
The centre mount on this car is the quick release version. The bracket detaches from the mounting component without tools once it’s set up, so the plate can come off for a show or a shoot and go straight back on afterwards.
In The Box
Everything, including the tool.
Model-specific mounting component, anodized 6061 billet bracket, stainless hardware, PPF kit for the gloss black grille, EPDM foam pads, blackout decals, short and long plate bolts, nylon washers and the 4mm KW allen key.
Fitment
Will it fit?
Cut specifically for the 2022–2024 MK8 Golf R grille. The 2025+ MK8.5 R and the GTI cars use different mounting components — they have their own listings.

Compare
Side vs Center.
Both mount without drilling and both leave the tow hook alone. The centre option on this car adds the quick release mechanism, which is where the extra $10 goes.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Which side is “Left”?
Left and Right are from the driver’s perspective sitting in the car. So Left is the driver side on a North American car, Right is the passenger side.
What does quick release actually do?
The plate bracket separates from the mounting component without tools once it has been set up. Handy if you pull the plate for shows, photos or track days and want it back on in seconds.
Will it throw parking sensor errors?
No. The holder is designed to sit clear of the front sensors, which is the main reason it exists rather than a generic universal bracket.
Do I lose the tow hook?
No. Tow-hook plate brackets block the recovery point when you most need it. This one mounts independently, so the hook stays available.
How long until it ships?
These are made and shipped from Kollektiv Werks in Toronto. Allow around a week of processing before dispatch, then normal transit time to you. Cross-border shipments can occasionally add a day or two at customs.
Does it fit a plate cover or frame?
Yes. The kit includes both short bolts (plate only) and long bolts (plate plus cover), so either setup works out of the box.
