How to Deactivate the Light Bar — MK8 GTI
Turn off the illuminated grille light bar on the MK8 GTI with OBDeleven — two adaptation channels in Central Electrics, about ten minutes, fully reversible.

Tool required
OBDeleven V3 — VW & Audi Diag & Coding Tool (Device Only)
$113.00Overview
Clean front end, two channels.
The light bar runs off two lamp outputs in the Central Electrics module. Set both to not active and the bar stays dark — your DRLs and headlights keep working as normal.
What it does
Kills the grille light bar only.
Why do it
Stealth look, or prep for a swap.
Reversible
Flip it back any time.
Time & skill
A beginner job.
Worksheet
Step by step.
Ignition on, engine off. Keep the doors closed and the battery healthy while you code.
Plug in and connect OBDeleven
Plug the OBDeleven into the OBD port under the dash on the driver's side, switch the ignition on and connect through the OBDeleven app.
Don't have the device yet? Grab the OBDeleven V3 here. Manual adaptations need an OBDeleven plan that unlocks them (PRO or ULTIMATE).

Connecting OBDeleven
Open Central Electrics
From the control unit list, open 09 — Central Electrics. If the app asks to unlock the module (SFD), follow the in-app prompt.

Opening 09 — Central Electrics
Go to Adaptation
Tap Adaptation, then use the search bar to filter the channel list.

Adaptation in Central Electrics
Find light bar channel 1
Search Leuchte 31 AMBL 1 C61 and open it. Find Lichtfunktion A 31 and screenshot the current value before you touch it.

Light bar channel in OBDeleven Adaptation
Set it to not active
Change Lichtfunktion A 31 to nicht aktiv (not active) and save.
Find light bar channel 2
Search Leuchte 32 AMBL 2 C35. Screenshot the current value of Lichtfunktion A 32, then change it to nicht aktiv and save.

Second light bar channel
Cycle the ignition and check
Turn the ignition off, lock the car for a minute, then start it up. The grille light bar should stay dark while the headlights and DRLs work normally.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Will this turn off my DRLs or headlights?
No. Only the two light bar outputs are changed. The headlights, DRLs and indicators keep working exactly as before.
How do I turn the light bar back on?
Go back to the same two channels and set Lichtfunktion A 31 and A 32 to the original values you saved before coding.
Do I need a paid OBDeleven plan?
Manual adaptations in OBDeleven need a plan that unlocks them (PRO or ULTIMATE). The device itself is a one-time purchase.
I can't find the channels.
Search inside the Adaptation list for 'Leuchte 31' and 'Leuchte 32'. Channel names can vary slightly by software version, so look for the AMBL light bar entries.
Will this throw a fault code?
It shouldn't — you're telling the module the outputs aren't used. If a light fault does appear, clear it in OBDeleven and cycle the ignition.
Don't have the device?

Reference worksheet only. Coding changes are made at your own risk — always save your original values before changing anything, and keep the battery healthy (or on a charger) while coding. Eurowerks isn't affiliated with OBDeleven or Volkswagen.
