A finished floor, not a bare shell.

The MK7 loses a real chunk of weight once the rear bench is out, but what’s left underneath is not something you want to look at. This three-piece false floor closes the whole void off flat, carpet or Alcantara, so the back of the car looks intentional. Full rear seat removal walkthrough is further down this page.

The Build

Three panels, trimmed and ready.

The floor arrives as separate sections so it can ship without damage, then assembles in the car. Each panel is cut on a pattern taken from the MK7 / 7.5 floorpan and upholstered before it leaves the workshop — there is no trimming or fitting work left for you.

The Install

Bolts to what the seats left behind.

Once the bench and backrests are out, the floor locates on the factory seat mounting points. Nothing gets cut, drilled or bonded, so the whole thing is reversible — keep the seat hardware and the car goes back to stock whenever you want.

The Finish

Factory carpet, or Alcantara.

Black OEM carpet is the standard trim and matches the rest of the interior closely enough that it reads as a factory option. Alcantara is the +$80 upgrade and turns the same floor into a deliberate build piece.

The Result

A usable, flat cargo bay.

Weight comes out, the rear of the cabin opens up, and the bare metal that a seat delete normally exposes stays hidden. Good for track days, load hauling, or just a cleaner look through the back glass.

Will it fit?

Cut for the 2012–2020 MK7 / 7.5 floorpan. The rear bench and backrests need to come out first — the floor replaces them, it doesn’t sit on top.

Carpet vs Alcantara.

Same floor, same fit, same lead time — the only difference is what it’s trimmed in.

Getting the rear seat out.

Everything below covers stripping the factory rear seat out of a MK7 / 7.5 Golf — the part you do before any seat delete goes in. Budget about an hour if it’s your first time. Nothing is cut or destroyed, so the seat can go back in whenever you want it to.

Deep 17mm socketRatchetT20 Torx bitT30 Torx key or socket5mm Allen key
  1. Headrests. Press the release on the top of the seat and raise each headrest until it stops. Squeeze the tab on both guide collars and pull the headrest free. Repeat for all three.
  2. Child seat anchor covers. Slide your fingers into the opening and pull the cover toward the front of the car. For the lower cover, push its leading edge down until it clicks, then draw it forward and up.
  3. Free the lower bench. Underneath each end of the cushion is a steel rod that drops into the seat support. Grab along the front edge and lift sharply to pop it loose, then do the same at the other end.
  4. Lift the bench out. The rear edge is held by two clips — push the cushion down and toward the back of the car to unhook them, then lift the whole bottom cushion out.
  5. Centre seatbelt anchor. Take the nut off with a deep 17mm socket and ratchet. Thread it back onto the stud finger-snug against the floor so it can’t rattle loose or get lost — it can stay in the car.
  6. Cargo tray. Go around to the hatch, lift the handle and pull the tray toward you.
  7. Lower bracket trim. Pull each edge of the trim piece outward to release its tabs, then slide it toward the rear to remove. A T30 Torx takes out the bolt hiding underneath.
  8. Upper support bracket. Lift the back edge of the black bracket on top of the rear seat support, nudge it forward to unhook the front edge, then lift it up and toward you.
  9. Seat backs. Pull the latch at the top of each backrest to fold it down. Lift the centre of the seat back up out of its bracket, then slide it inboard to clear the stud near the door.
  10. Put the bracket back. Refit the lower seat bracket and its Torx screw. Leave it in the car — it won’t foul the seat delete and it’s one less part to lose.
  11. Refit the cargo tray. Then vacuum out every bit of junk that’s been living under those seats.

Procedure adapted from the MK7 seat delete guide published by CJM Industries — the illustrated version with photos is at cjminstall.com. Assembly of your AR Designs floor differs from the CJM kit; instructions ship with the product.

Questions, answered.

Does this include the strut bar or cargo net?

No. The floor is sold on its own. AR Designs offer a strut bar and cargo net package separately — email us if you want them quoted alongside your order.

Can I get a cutout for a brace or air tank?

Yes, but it has to be requested before the build starts. Send us the details at contact@eurowerks.co right after ordering and we’ll pass them to AR Designs. Cutouts can’t be added once the floor is trimmed.

Do I need to cut or drill anything in the car?

No. The floor locates on the factory seat mounting points that are left behind once the bench is out. Nothing on the car is modified.

Can I put the rear seats back in later?

Yes. The install is fully reversible — keep the bench, the backrests and the hardware and the car goes back to stock whenever you want.

Carpet or Alcantara — which should I pick?

Black OEM carpet matches the factory interior and is the safer choice if the rest of the car is stock. Alcantara reads more like a build piece and photographs better. Both are the same floor underneath.

How long does it take to arrive?

Each floor is made to order in the UK. Allow roughly three weeks for the build and dispatch, plus transit time to you. We’ll confirm your material by email once the order lands.
