OEM VW /AUDI VAQ / Haldex Differential Fluid G065175A2

Genuine VW / Audi850 mlVAQ Front e-LSDGen 5 / Gen 6 Haldex30,000 mi Service

This is the factory fluid for the VW/Audi VAQ front differential and Audi Haldex all-wheel-drive systems. It is a critical wear item that owners often forget to service until the clutch pack starts making noise. Don't skip this maintenance interval.

⚠️ One bottle is one service. The VAQ front unit takes roughly 0.80 L and a Haldex rear unit 0.65–0.85 L, so one 850 ml bottle covers one unit. If you're doing both the front VAQ and the rear Haldex on the same car, order two.

Built-in fill spout

The fluid nobody changes until it's late.

VAQ and Haldex both run a multi-plate wet clutch pack, and both rely entirely on the oil to modulate lock-up smoothly. As the fluid shears down you get shudder on tight low-speed turns, hesitant engagement, rising pump amperage draw, and a diff quietly grinding through its own friction material. It's a bottle of oil against a unit that costs four figures.

Factory Formulated

Built for high-pressure hydraulic circuits.

Engineered by VW AG specifically for the modern low-viscosity, high-pressure Haldex and VAQ circuits. It holds exact friction coefficients across the operating temperature range, which is what keeps pump amperage draw inside factory tolerance and engagement free of chatter.

Latest Supersession

G065175A2 is the current number.

VW supersedes the older G060175A2 with G065175A2 — same application, newer spec. Most aftermarket brands still catalogue against the old number, which is why cross-referencing the two matters when you're checking what's already on the shelf.

The Application

Front on a GTI, rear on an R.

On a VAQ-equipped MK7 or MK8 GTI this feeds the front electronic differential lock. On a Golf R, S3, RS3 or TT it's the rear Haldex coupling — Gen 5 on MK7 / MK7.5 cars, Gen 6 torque-vectoring on the MK8. Same fluid, two very different jobs.

850 ml Squeeze Bottle

Pull-out spout, no funnel gymnastics.

The bottle ships with an integrated pull-out nozzle, which matters more than it sounds when the fill port is buried behind a subframe. Squeeze it in from the bottle — no transfer pump, no funnel wedged into a two-inch gap.

Will it fit?

Fits the VAQ front electronic differential lock and the Gen 5 / Gen 6 Haldex rear coupling across the VW Group range. The list below covers the common Eurowerks platforms — the fluid itself is used far more widely, so ask if your car isn't here.

Do it properly the first time.

A Haldex or VAQ service is a straightforward job, but there are four details that separate a clean change from one that weeps, overfills, or kills a pre-charge pump six months later. Read these before you jack the car up.

Step 01 — Leveling

Get the car dead level.

The vehicle has to sit completely level on jack stands or a lift. These units fill to a port rather than to a measured volume, so a nose-up or side-low car gives you a wrong fill level every time — usually underfilled.

Step 02 — Fill Level

Fill until it drips, then torque.

Add fluid until it begins to slowly drip back out of the fill port. That's the level. Torque the fill plug to spec with a fresh crush washer — the old one is single-use and is the usual reason a service weeps afterwards.

Step 03 — Pump Screen

Gen 5 Haldex has no paper filter.

Instead there's a metal mesh screen on the pre-charge pump intake. Pull the pump and clean that screen during every fluid change. Keeping debris off the screen is the single most effective thing you can do to avoid pump failure.

Step 04 — Post-Fill Priming

Bleed the circuit, then re-check.

Use VCDS or OBDeleven to actuate the pump via Basic Settings → Pump Function Test. That bleeds air out of the hydraulic circuit. Re-check the fluid level afterwards and top up to the port if it's dropped.

Enthusiast maintenance tip: change this fluid every 30,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first — and more often on a tracked or heavily-driven car. While you're in there, pull the pre-charge pump and clean the mesh intake screen. Preventing debris buildup on that screen is the single most effective way to avoid pump failure.

Questions, answered.

How often should this be changed?

Every 30,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first. Tracked and heavily-driven cars should go shorter than that — the fluid shears down faster under repeated hard launches and sustained cornering load.

Is G060175A2 the same thing?

G065175A2 is the newer number that supersedes it for this application. If you've got a bottle of the old number on the shelf, it's the predecessor of what's on this page.

How much do I need?

One 850 ml bottle per unit. The VAQ front differential takes roughly 0.80 L and a Haldex rear unit 0.65–0.85 L, so doing the front VAQ and the rear Haldex on the same car means two bottles.

Do I need to clean the Haldex pump screen?

Yes, on Gen 5 units. There's no traditional paper filter — just a metal mesh screen on the pre-charge pump intake. Pull the pump and clean it at every fluid change. Skipping it is the most common cause of pre-charge pump failure.

Do I need VCDS or OBDeleven?

It's strongly recommended. After filling, actuate the pump through Basic Settings → Pump Function Test to bleed air out of the hydraulic circuit, then re-check the level. Without that step you can leave air trapped and end up effectively underfilled.

Does the car need to be level?

Yes. Both units fill to a port rather than a measured volume, so the car must sit completely level on stands or a lift or your fill level will be wrong.

Can I use a generic gear oil instead?

No. VAQ and Haldex units run a multi-plate wet clutch pack, and the friction characteristics of the fluid are what make engagement smooth. A generic hypoid gear oil will cause shudder and can push pump amperage draw outside tolerance.

What's the return policy?

Returns are handled under our standard refund policy. Note that opened fluids generally can't be returned — check fitment with us first if you're unsure.
